Technology Training March 13, 2007

As I plan for the summer and the next school year, I want to provide you with technology training that will be beneficial. I need to give you sessions on how to use technology with students in your classroom, how to increase their productivity, how to increase your own productivity. Tell me what you want to learn about technology. Tell me what you want your students to do with technology.

I’m so happy to see the block has been lifted on EduBlogs!
Can we focus on using these in classrooms now?
Me, too. Students would love it!

It is a good idea to offer some beginning technology courses for new-service teachers. I envision sort of a one-day blitz for teachers who have never used any technology, such as PowerPoint, Advanced Word, and a homework Wiki for teachers in a day-long format.
Lisa,
I would like to have some kind of a troubleshooting and computer maintenance workshop. Also a basics workshop - PowerPoint, etc.
lisa,
i, too, would like some kind of a troubleshooting and computer mntc wrkshop.
thanks
maria
Lisa, Honestly, I really need to know more of the IT secrets. I know many of them but I am not privy to others. The reason is so that I can fix everything without waiting for IT. Sometimes they get tied up for weeks setting up computers and showing teachers where the “on” button is located.
I think you currently do a great job offering technology training. I wish more of my teachers would take advantage of it. I would like to see money provided to pay for subs, and it is important that the training be during the school day. I would like to learn more about troubleshooting. My teachers still need basic computer training: Word, PowerPoint, Excel. They would benefit from seeing real examples of how elementary teachers integrate technology into the curriculum. I would like to get more teachers trained on the Emerge clickers. We are still hoping Jefferson County will provide us with a professional school web page. We would also like to learn about elementary blogs.
I agee, computer maintenace and troubleshooting is very important. Since I will be retired, I won’t be able to take advantage of your offerings, but many teachers still need to know how to avoid trouble and maintain their computers.
More of our teachers need to be trained on the e-Clickers as well. With the faculty changes from year to year, it is difficult to have a consistent group of people who can pass on their knowledge to new teachers.
Would it help if I did some podcasts or flash videos on maintenance and troubleshooting tips that tech reps and other teachers could access through the website any time you needed them?
Lisa:
I would like for my teachers to do a project in Technology and would like suggestions on how to do it: Guidelines, Incentives, funding, and Principal support. I would like to learn how to download free music, games etc. that I’ve never done. (Just the simple things, I can’t seen to get around to learning.
Lisa,
My kids would like to participate in the Alice.org program.
I hope you offer advanced Word, Outlook Express, Classroom Performance System and Multimedia this summer.
I would love to have more training in troubleshooting areas. It would definitely come in handy if I were able to take care of some of the computer issues so some of the teachers aren’t waiting a month or longer for their work orders to be completed.
I would also love training on how to integrate technology into the curriculum. I teach Kindergarten and it’s somewhat overlwhelming to think about how I could integrate technology with my 5 year olds. I don’t mind doing it, I”m just not sure what and how to do it. I would love to be able to pass that information along to the teachers at my school as well. I’m sure they will have the same questions and concerns as I do, especially those that teach younger grades.
Yes, it would be very helpful! I think that the training that you currently offer is very good. It is difficult to get teachers to attend because there is SO MUCH other professional development that is being done. Our teachers are required to attend so many ARI and SACS related professional development sessions that they are resistant to taking on anything else. I personally don’t feel that way, but many of the teachers do. But, as always, those who need the training are the exact ones who will not participate unless they are required to.
My Teachers just need help getting technology integrated into their curriculum with a limited amount of equipment.
